RULES FOR THE SAFE PRACTICE OF BASE JUMPING

THESE RULES WERE DEVELOPED BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND JUMPERS, WORKING TOGETHER

  1. Jumpers must hold a sport skydiving license, and have completed a minimum of 300 skydives. If the jumper is a BASE student (less than 15 BASE jumps), at least 100 skydives should have been made in the last 12 months, and all BASE jumps should be made under the supervision of an experienced BASE instructor.
  2. BASE sites in the province should only be jumped by experienced jumpers with at least 50 prior BASE jumps. The main terminal wall is the only exception, and jumpers there should have a minimum of 15 prior BASE jumps.
  3. Use only BASE specific parachuting gear. Do not use skydiving gear of any kind, whether unmodified or converted for BASE use.
  4. Do not jump in case of adverse weather conditions, wind magnitude greater than 2 meters per second, or insufficient visibility.
  5. Always check in and out with ground crew, or others, who can verify that you have finished jumping safely at the end of the day.
  6. Follow all established procedures for each site, including jumping at appropriate times and using BASE specific gear. Jumps made at the main terminal wall should follow the following guidelines:
    - Not less than 7 and not more 8 seconds of vertical freefall in box position or;
    - Not less than 7 seconds and not more than 12 seconds for the jumpers capable of doing an effective track (at least to pass over the talus).
  7. Do not jump after sunset.
  8. Once on the exit, move with extreme caution so as not to dislodge rocks.
  9. For emergency rescue, call 118.
  10. In the event of a helicopter rescue, if possible, please cut away and fold or bag the canopy. A canopy that reinflates from the helicopter's rotor blast could be dangerous to both the jumper and the helicopter.
  11. To have cure and respect of the forest and to avoid to leave refusals.
